Building a Team in Sterile Processing

Updated: Mar 10, 2022

Light bulb - Thought of the Week

There is no more a place that needs a team environment than Sterile Processing. The environment is demanding, often quick-paced, with patient needs changing at a drop of the hat.

When building our teams, we need to be inclusive and not exclusive. While we need to have cohesiveness within our own staff, we need to approach our customer relationships in the same manner.

Communication, or the lack thereof, is usually our greatest hurdle. Daily shift huddles develop consistency with communication transfers. A departmental meeting should occur at least monthly for all shifts. We should have scheduled times for information dissemination with our main customers daily. Weekly meeting to review goals, past experiences, and future needs is a must.

Information management systems were developed to reduce the gap with communication processes, expedite communication, and reduce errors. However, they lack the human experience. There is nothing more that will build a team environment than to have face-to-face contact with whom you share a common goal.

At Evolved Sterile Processing, our consultants have a greater focus on sterile processing. With our decades of experience, we will help you develop better processes and educational resources for your staff.
